The first stage of the Music Aptitude Test comprises a multiple choice written aptitude test in music consisting of 60 questions in four tests sections.
Those students who achieve, or exceed the first round qualifying score out of a total of 60 marks will be given an individual appointment during the day to attend the Watford School of Music for the second stage performance assessment. First round scores can vary each year from a range of 43 to 46 marks.
Students applying for special consideration will hear an additional time recording of the test. This allows for the additional time equivalent of 25% that would be awarded in the written test. The recording is played at the same speed as the standard aural test however, candidates are given additional time between questions to record their answers and process what they have heard.
