Home training resources for the Music Aptitude Test 2027.

Our comprehensive range of home training resources are designed to help and prepare students for the secondary transfer Music Aptitude Test. Supporting students for the SW Herts Consortium of Schools and selective schools in London and throughout the UK that use the music criterion as part of their admissions process.

Select from Introductory, Intermediate and Higher Level MAT Practice Tests for regular home training practice and  Targeted MAT Practice Tests for further consolidation. We also offer Graphic Notation MAT, Enhanced Aural MAT and School Specific MAT Tests for Ashmole Academy and Mill Hill County High School.

Music Aptitude Tests is our sister website where you can buy professionally recorded digital MAT Practice audio download tests. Our music test examples are performed on a range of acoustic instruments, closely reflecting the kinds of acoustic sounds that students can expect to hear in the Music Aptitude Test rather than computer generated synthetic bleeps. They provide a more realistic listening experience to simulate the quality, character and timbre of the musical sounds they will experience on the test day.

Each MAT Practice Test consists of 60 multiple choice questions in four test sections: Pitch, Melody, Rhythm & Texture and is an accurate and up to date simulation of the Music Aptitude Test. Every audio download test includes a test sheet for students to complete and a separate answer sheet for immediate marking and results. Tests are available to purchase as individual MAT tests or in convenient multipack formats.

In our experience, students who practise and prepare regularly become comfortable and familiar with the music test format, including the types of musical examples they are likely to encounter. Regular practice helps them develop a clearer understanding of what is expected of them on test day, whilst building confidence and familiarity with the assessment process.
